Early experiences help shape our lives and, who we inherently become and from as young in age as I can remember, I always wanted to be an artist. Any type of artist. However, growing up with a lack of resources in a turbulent household, that goal seemed almost impossible. Years later, I was encouraged by my drawing professor to look into graphic design. It was the perfect fit; accessible, within my range of ability and, it’s a profession that will always be necessary in this increasingly technological driven society.
Design is special because it doesn't have to be complex in order to get a complex message across. In my opinion, we live in a time where we are constantly bombarded with tons of information where simple, yet effective, design is a way to aesthetically alleviate that pain. Being inspired by Kandinsky, abstract and Bauhaus art, bold colors and, shapes have become a staple in my work because they feel nostalgic, stand out, and captivate the eye.
Graphic design is introspective! It takes a deep look into what needs to be transcribed visually. That's why the beginning of the design process is my favorite: gathering resources through careful research and, utilizing mood boards as a starting point to inspire my own artistic process. Through this, I'm able to find the aspects of what I believe needs to be portrayed visually to create a unique design of my own while getting a deeper understanding into who or, what I'm designing for. The best part about this process is that is how not just design, but art, as a whole will progress.
My goal is to establish an independent design studio as an outlet to sell my own prints and merchandise. In reality, I would be happy in any career as long as I get to express my creativity every day. Whatever I end up doing I know I will continue to learn and grow as a person and, artist.
